Declutter First

You cannot clean if your home is still cluttered. You’ll wind up shoving items aside or simply failing to clean beneath them! This is why decluttering must come first.

Declutter in parts. Start with a single corner of a single room and progress to the next piece when you’re finished.

It is ideal to have several boxes or bags for this. Have one bag for “keep” stuff, one for “donate” items, one for “trash”, and one for “fix or reuse” items. It’s also useful to include a “wrong room” box so you don’t have to leave your room.

Remember to get rid of anything that does not have a place.

Countertops and Tables

Start cleaning with surfaces. They are not only touched daily, but you may also have to clean up crumbs and other debris that wind up on the floor.

You are not required to disinfect after each cleaning session, but because spring cleaning is a large event, you should take advantage of the opportunity to disinfect everything. Fortunately, the CDC provides useful guidelines that you can follow at home!

Clean Those Floors!

After you’ve cleaned the surfaces, go on to the floors.

Remove any particles by vacuuming or sweeping. If you have dogs or youngsters, you may wish to hoover each area twice to remove any remaining filth.

Then it’s time to deep clean. Use a mop wherever you have hard flooring (but be cautious with hardwood). Start at the furthest location from the door to avoid walking over your hard work.

When it comes to carpets, it may be worthwhile to purchase (or rent) a steam cleaner. This seeps deep into the carpet’s fibres. You’ll be surprised at how different clean carpet looks than unclean carpet.

Cover Large Projects

This is the ideal moment to tackle the jobs you’ve been putting off all year. Many of these projects take place in the kitchen. Begin by cleaning the refrigerator. Take everything out and clean all of the shelves. Throw away everything you don’t recall putting in, and double-check all of the labels for expiration dates.

Next, repeat the process in the pantry. It’s wonderful to have a kitchen that is no longer cluttered with needless or unusable items!

This is also the ideal time to clean out your closets. Do you own clothes that you never wear? Messes from hidden clutter? It’s time to go to work.
